Climate deserves to be a keyword in the vocabulary of culture and society. Its nature, history and vicissitudes in relation to human affairs are key concepts organising our ideas of the aerial environment and our relationship to it. The time is ripe for big picture syntheses of historical ideas of relevance to public concerns.
